Who Are We
Warrumbungle Observatory is a privately owned observatory and operated by Peter Starr.

Peter  is an amateur astronomer, was  a former Manager of Siding Spring Observatory,  and has studied extensively  in physics, astronomy, & chemistry. You are welcome to join Peter on a night of observing through  telescopes and learn the wonders of astronomy at Warrumbungle Observatory, Coonabarabran, the Astronomy Capital of Australia.
What do we offer you?
We have 7 telescopes you can view celestial objects from 1 light second to 50 million light years away;
14 inch Telescope
11 inch Telescope
2 x 8 Inch Telescopes
4 Inch Reractor
3 Inch Refractor
40mm H alpha solar telescope

We view from our 3.5m diameter observatory and also in the open air on a viewing platform where you can immerse yourself in the whole night sky and Milky Way.

Peter will give you an expert guide to the sky, teaching you
the motion of the stars and planets across the night sky
describing  and observing the birth, lives and death of stars
some astrophotography if you bring an slr camera
how to get the most out of your home telescope (better still bring it along)
or tips on purchasing your own telescope
and answer all your astronomical questions.

We will show you
live video of the Moon and Planets projected from the telescope,
Any Planet visible on that night,
The Moon and its craters when visible,
                          Star Clusters,
                          Constellations,
Nebulae and galaxies on moonless nights,
Also the odd satellite and shooting star.

Bring your SLR camera and try some astrophotography.

Before you arrive become familiar with altering the following settings: exposure time, iso setting, self timer or bring a remote to avoid vibration. Cater for only Canon, Pentax, and Nikon SLR cameras. ordinary digital cameras may work on the Moon and Jupiter.
